Electric VS Acoustic Guitar
So, as I mentioned yesterday, I'm going to buy myself a guitar. I've always wanted to learn, and I miss making music. I have no clue whether I will be good or not, but I have wanted to try for years. I have a little bit of spare money saved up, so now's the time.
The problem is that I don't know that much about guitars or how you learn. So, this will be a journey of discovery for me, for sure. I've done a bit of research.
Ease of Learning
This is probably the biggest question I've had when it comes to Electric vs Acoustic guitar. And, like everything else on the internet, you get different answers based on who you ask. It appears that many people answer that electric is easier to learn for absolute beginners. This seems to be because of the strings.
I don't know what that means, but I look forward to learning.
Sound
This is a taste thing. And the issue for that is that I like the sound of both. I doubt that I'd be able to pick which way to go based just on the sound.
The one thing I know for sure is that I can't sing. So this will be all about the instrument and not about what pairs well with my voice. There will be no voice. I can't sing. I actually think that's an understatement. I can't hold a tune to save my life. Singing, I sound like a boy going through puberty. It's not pretty.
Cost
This isn't something that I've looked into all that much. I know the beginner acoustics that I've been looking at have been between 90 and 150 bucks. For the small amount of electric guitars that I've looked at, most run about 100 dollars more. Obviously, those prices can go way up, but I intend to stick to the low end. If I flame out, there's no sense in wasting money.
As for brands, I only know a couple, and I still have to do research on what brand is the best. Or at least isn't Amazon Basics.
Procrastination
I've wanted to do this for years, so why haven't I? Two reasons. First, I'm pessimistic about my ability to learn. That's a big one. Second, I always get into these research rabbit holes, where I get myself too much information, get overwhelmed, and then not buy one.
So, to combat this, I've decided, I'm doing it today. I'll do a bit more research and then pull the trigger. After all, if I learn how to play, maybe a better guitar will come to me in the future.
