The History Channel

I have wanted to start my own history-related publication for a long time. I've worked for one long enough to know that it's a large undertaking, which is why I've not actually pulled the trigger.

But the time has come.

I'm going to officially launch my second YouTube channel in a few weeks if all goes well. Like with everything, the hardest part for me has always been getting started, so I'm just going to do it. If I had waited for everything to be perfect for The Linux Cast, it probably wouldn't exist yet.

So, I'm just going to get started. I'll be making my first video tomorrow. I have it mostly planned out. It won't be perfect. In fact, I expect it to be just as bad as the first few videos were on TLC. But I'll get better. The point is, if I don't start it now, I will continue to procrastinate and never do it.

I'm also writing this so that I commit to it. I'll probably do a few more blogs as I start this journey. I'm curious how the experience will be, given that this is my second channel. How will it differ from the first time? How do the lessons I've learned with TLC transfer over? And most importantly, what don't I know? What hurdles will I face?

It'll be a journey. The biggest wall I'll face is figuring out what happens if it doesn't take off. I need to temper expectations and make sure I'm not looking for success too soon. It'll be a challenge. But my plan is to give it a year to get to 1000 subscribers. It's a low goal, but I think that over performing will be better for me than trying to go too hard too fast.

Commitment will be the hardest part. That's why I'm not publicly posting anything until I have a nice cache of videos in the bank. That way I can keep a schedule for both channels. I know from The Linux Cast that I do better when I don't have to rush a video and I have a stack of them ready to go.

So, that's my plan. Get videos ready to go, and then on June 1st, share the channel with the world. That will give me 6 months to get to 1k. I think it's doable if I dedicate myself to it.

This is part of 30 in 30, my challenge to blog every day for 30 days. This is day 7.
