Stats Provide Motivation

My lack of blogging recently has bothered me. Part of it was that I was a little burnt out. I just had very little to talk about. But there was something else. Around that same time Umami decided to go to version 3.0. For those of you who don’t know, Umami is a Google Analytics alternative that is self hostable and privacy focused. The problem is, the new update is garbage. The new UI is unintuitive an requires more work to get around to stats you’d like to see.

Creating A Historical Record Of Your Life

I’ve been writing about notes, note-taking, and notebooks a lot lately. Beyond the fact that I have a crappy memory and writing everything down helps with that, I also feel the need to create a record of my own personal history.

As I get older, I feel more and more like I want to do things that matter, if not to others, at least to myself. I’m not so sure that I succeed at that, but I do feel like documenting the things I do, even if they all end up supremely mundane, is something I can do to make myself feel like I’m actually doing something.

I Wish I Had Been Scrobbling For Years

I have talked a lot about regrets on this blog since I started out. Nobody wants them, everyone has them. One regret I didn’t think I had was about LastFM of all things. First off, I didn’t even know that LastFM was still a thing. I thought that died along with FourSquare and MySpace (to add to the list: Digg and Stumbleupon). But nope, it’s still around (even if the website is kinda broken and never gets updates).
