Should There Be Comments?

If you’ve followed me over the last few months as I’ve worked to fill this blog with content, you’ll know that I’ve struggled with adding a comment system. I wrote two blog posts about it, maybe more.

My struggle wasn’t whether to have comments at all, but rather finding the best commenting platform.

I eventually settled on Hyvor, which you see below, but even now I’m not happy with that system. Only, really, because it is extraordinarily expensive. Hyvor just costs way too much for me to keep it long term. So, eventually I’ll have to come up with another option, and yet again, I’ll have to go searching for something that is as good as what I have right now.

Capitalize Your Letters

So, usually I don’t mock people for being creative. It takes a lot of courage to put yourself out there with something you’ve made. I do it all the time, so I know how much doing so can actually cost you.

But today, I have to rant about something that’s going to come across as mean.

As you guys know, I’ve been taking part in Blaugust this year. It’s been fun, not only that it has kept me writing, but also that I’ve discovered so many blogs. I even subscribed to all of them.

Memories Aren’t Always Real

I used to chew gum a lot as a kid. Remember that zebra decorated pack, I think it was called Fruit Stripe? And then there Bubblicious. Probably didn’t spell that right. The point is, I loved chewing gum. Every once in a while I’d get some Wrigley Spear Mint and I’d feel a little more grown up.

I haven’t actually had a chewing gum in probably 25 years, if not more. I grew out of it and there was other candy to be had. My teeth also got super sensitive as I aged, so I didn’t actually want to chew gum anymore.

I Updated My Blog Script

Back in June, I wrote a post about a script I wrote to automate posting to this blog. It was a fairly simple script that basically crafted the title and then created the .md file with the front matter inside. I have to admit, I was pretty proud of that script, and I’ve been using it ever since. Every blog post I’ve published since then has been started with that script.

AI Is A Brilliant Motivator Sometimes

I have talked about AI before on my podcast and on my YouTube channel, but my primary use case is using AI for tech support. Right now I’m trying Emacs again, and that means I’m having to do a lot of new things. AI, in my case, is a very chatty version of Google. I ask it how I can set a keybinding for dashboard and it tells me how to do it. I copy the code, put it in my init.el and move on with my day.

Too Many Blogs, So Little Time

So with Blaugust going on, I’ve found so many new blogs to read. Someone (and I’m sorry, I didn’t save the link) created an opml file that allows you to import the RSS feeds from every single blog that is participating in Blaugust 2025. I did this. Because I love to read blogs, even when I’m not all interested in the topics being written about. It’s actually fairly rare for me to be that uninterested. I learn a lot, and I’m often inspired by what other people write. I have come up with both blog post ideas and video ideas just from reading various blogs around the internet.

In Defense Of Dark Mode

This post is in reply to Forking Mad and their post Dark web sites.

I disagree with many people on many things. I think people who love Windows are a bit disillusioned. I think people who worship at the alter of the GOP or the Democratic party here in the USA are mostly fools. I disagree with people who think broccoli is the best vegetable.

But maybe the most outrageous take ever is that light modes are the best. I get that they have great contrast, but beyond that, they hurt your eyes. That’s not science talking, because there are studies on both sides of that debate (like there is with every debate), but instead it’s pure experience. It’s also my opinion.

Blaugust 2025

I’ve seen some of my fellow bloggers talk about an August event called Blaugust. This is an event, supposedly happening every year, where bloggers try to write every day during the month of August. I did something similar on my own earlier this year, so I think this is something I can do. I know that it’s already August 2, but I’ve posted the last two days, so I’m on my way already.
