The Internet Sucks
You may have noticed a lack of content from me lately. My Internet has been super unreliable for ages, and these last two weeks it has been even worse. And it’s not like it has been down. Instead we’ve been having these periods (almost every day) where our upload speed goes down to nothing.
The way the internet works is, packets are exchanged between you and the server you’re trying to visit. That means both ways. And with no upload speed, or very little, it was almost impossible to get anything done.
We streamed the podcast last week and it was a painful experience all around. Buffering and drops all over the place.
I’ve, obviously, called my ISP many times over this. It has been happening for over a month, though it has gotten way worse. WOW, my ISP, “helped” by having me unplug things and plug things back in. Over and over and over again.
That did not work. Surprise!
They did eventually send someone out to fix it. The guy says it was a bad splitter. And it does seem better, though we had some time last night that the upload speed still went down to nothing.
I’m just a bit peeved about all this. Has anyone ever had a good experience with a major cable company? Supposedly there’s a local fiber company that is available here, but their website would not let me sign up for it, so who knows what’s going on there. The reviews for that local company are glowing, which makes me suspicious. I know I’d happily rate my ISP negative stars, despite being with then for over 30 years.
If the Internet is really back to fully functioning, I’ll be back to making content. Here’s hoping, right?
