The Pen Problem Continues
Soon, I’m going to issue a challenge. The “Don’t Buy Shit” Challenge. I’ll write more about that tomorrow, but for now you need to understand what has prompted that challenge.
I’ve bought “some” fountain pens. I’ve talked about this new hobby of mine before and I’ve mentioned it several times on the podcast, but it’s worse than I want to admit.
I now have at least two dozen fountain pens. Now, none of these were overly expensive, at least when you learn that some pens can cost thousands of dollars, but they are not 10 cent Bics either.
For example, my most recent purchase is the Majohn P140. It’s amazing. So amazing, I bought two of them (one fine nib, one medium). I love this pen quite a lot, it is at least close to being my favorite (though the TWSBI 580 still holds that spot), and I am glad that I bought it.
But this hobby is never ending. There will always be “the next pen,” and that spells trouble for my wallet, because my impulse control has always been sus.
I’ll write more about how I’m going to work on that tomorrow, but for now, let’s talk pens.
The P140 is amazing because it has a thicker barrel. My hands are quite large, and I’ve found that I feel more comfortable with pens that are thicker. The TWSBI is thinner, but I still enjoy the smoothness of it so it remains my favorite. The P140 is really close and has the thicker barrel. If it weren’t so juicy (it puts out way more ink than the TWSBI), it would probably be my main squeeze for a while.
I also have this new Asvine pen (sorry not sure the model), and it is actually quite good. It’s a little thicker than the TWSBI, but not as thick as the P140, and it also has a very nice flow to it. I don’t care for the loading mechanism as much, but it’s still very good.
I’ve also purchased a little organizer that goes on my desk so I can have all my pens at hand all the time instead of tucked into a pen case. It’s very nice. And, best of all (or worst of all), it has room for MORE PENS!
I’m in trouble.
