A few days late just means there is more to cover, right?

Programming and Scripting

This week I worked on my homepage quite a bit. I added a ListenBrainz widget and fixed quite a few bugs that have been bugging me for a while.

I also worked on Mattrix, but I’m thinking about scrapping it. Between Claude and me, we’re pretty stuck on the encryption thing. It either needs to be refactored or I’m just going to give up.

I also refactored the entire Music page on this blog. I’ve moved to ListenBrainz, and added a ton more info while also making it look better. It still lacks some images, but I’ve put in what I can scrape from LB.

Finally, I’ve started the planning stages on a reading tracker. I use Read More for a long while. It’s great, but I want some web functionality so I can scrape my own data easier. I’m still just working on what features I want in the app. I’m not even sure what I’ll write it in, but knowing me it will be TypeScript and React.

Gaming

My nephew and I played one game of Madden this past weekend. He still kicked my ass. Then we played a game called Split Fiction. It is awesome. Its about these pair of writers who are given an opportunity to live their stories in a “VR” type simulation. But there’s a sinister plot and they end up getting stuck in a glitch, and they have to do all this stuff in their own imaginations. It’s really cool because each story has really different mechanics and even camera physics.

I did play some more CSII again this week. Still really enjoying it.

Reading

I finished Pandora’s Star. Still as good as I remember it. I’ll write up a full series review once I get through the second book.

I did get into last months Bookies Book of the Month book, Priest of Bones by Peter McLean, but I’ve officially DNF’d it after about 25%. It was just kind of boring and I couldn’t get attached to any of the characters.

I’m slowly making my way through Judas Unchained, the sequel to Pandora’s Star. It is even bigger, so it’s going to take me awhile to get done with it.

Potpourri

  • I’ve started to blog everyday again.
  • I have divorced my NixOS config from my main dotfiles. It now lives in its own repo which should make it easier for me to rollback when I need to.
  • I completely reworked my homelab, and it works great.
  • I’m still having intermittent Internet troubles. I replaced my router with something much newer from TP-Link, and it worked great for two days, but this evening we went back down to 0.12Mbps upload speed. It didn’t last long, but it is a sign that I’ve still not sussed out what is going on. My ISP is probably going to have to come out and do some tests. Oh, joy.
  • Spring is here, though I don’t expect it to stay. It was 10 degrees the other morning. We hit 50 again today. We’ll go up and down for the next two months.
  • I did end up doing my mom and dad’s taxes. It’s the same every year, so it wasn’t hard.
  • I’ve figured out what I dislike most about the Pixel 10 Pro Fold: there aren’t any good cases. I’ve even invested in two cases from Casetify, and they’re just as bad as all the rest. I love my phone cases, and not having any good ones has seriously dented my interest in this device. I may go back to my Galaxy S25 Ultra.
