This has been a very odd week. I’ve long been a night owl. I go to sleep sometime in the 3-4AM range, and then sleep until around 11AM. I’ve been working this last week to be a little more normal. To sleep before 2AM and then up around 9AM. It has been easier than I thought it would be.

Anyway, here’s this week’s newsletter.

Programming and Scripting⌗

I worked on sonic-tui a bit yesterday. I fixed some lag and added the ability to shuffle through an entire artist’s discography.

I’ve also created a script (that uses rsync) that will transfer video project directories from my local ssd to my file server. It cycles through the directories and then sends them off to the right folder on the server. It’s pretty nifty. I’d like to automate it more, but that would only happen if I stared to add the category to the directory name.

Gaming⌗

Joe (my nephew) and I played Smite yesterday. I’m still not great at this game. There’s just too much in the way of “stuff” to learn. He tells me things and I wonder if he’s even talking in English.

On my own, I played about 6 hours of Kingdoms and Castles. It’s a little city-builder type game. Sadly it’s not maintained anymore, but it is still very fun.

My Xbox came today. Looking forward to some Madden.

Potpourri⌗

  • I got into Manga a little this week. Found manga-tui, which has let me read some in the terminal and that connects to weebcentral. I’m of mixed feelings on this so far. I think it’s going to take finding a really good one to get me into it. So far, it’s been meh.
  • I created an Emacs Cheatsheet so that I can keep track of my bindings. I don’t use some of them very often, and it was getting annoying going in to the config to see what was going on.
  • Still really fucking cold here. It is supposed to finally warm up next week. Which is great, but that means shit is about to get messy.

Reading⌗

I’ve been reading Pandora’s Star. That’s it. About 5% a day so far. This is a huge book, but it has been worth it. I had forgotten how good it was. It’s by far my favorite Space Opera.

Goals From Last Week⌗

  • Finish Pandora’s Star. ❌ (not even close)
  • Record 3 videos for TLC and actually post more than one. ✅
  • Clean up my syncthing folders. They’re a mess due to my device switching. ✅
  • Avoid buying anything new. Except for Madden. ✅

3/4, not bad.

Goals for This Week⌗

  • Keep reading Pandora’s Star. Get to 75%.
  • Fix some more of my music’s metadata. I’ve found some errors.
  • Clean and reorganize my desk.
  • Figure out a storage solution for my used notebooks. Preferably without buying anything new.
