Last year, it was comments. This year it’s AI. Now, I think if you’re going to blog, you should do it yourself. Using AI for inspiration, I suppose, is okay, but the actual writing? Why bother having a blog if you’re not going to do the writing yourself? The entire point of blogging is to express yourself. That doesn’t happen if Chatty Jeeps does the work for you.

It’s not like coding where you might not have the knowledge to actually do the coding yourself. That is a usecase I understand and support. But,you have to have had the knowledge to set up the blog, and writing isn’t going to be any better with an AI doing it (trust me on that, AI can’t write worth a damn).

So it doesn’t seem to me that AI is a good thing for blogging. I just don’t get it.

But, honestly, I don’t care. If you want to do it that way? Go ahead. You don’t hurt me by doing it. You’re not really getting the point of blogging. You’re just sitting back while glorified autocomplete does the work for you. You get nothing out of it. There is no prize money at the end of August waiting for you. You get a badge. If it’s that important for you to get the badge, but not important enough for you to actually do the work to get it? Whatever.

But this does seem to happen every year. When we have Blaugust, we have to have something for the small web to be upset about. I wonder what next year’s will be. AI will probably bleed over, but maybe there will be something fresh.
