This was supposed to be a great year for reading. I planned on 40 new books and 40 rereads, which is slightly better than last year. But so far I’m at 12 books and we’re already half way through the year. It’s worse though, because I haven’t finished a book since mid-May. I’ve hopped from one to another, constantly picking up something new, and just cannot for the life of me get interested.

Usually when this happens – because it does happen quite often – I’ll pick up a book I’ve read before and reread it. I love to reread my favorites. Some of my favorite books, I’ve probably read a dozen times each. Some books will never get old for me. But this time, even the old standbys couldn’t reel me back in. I’ve read some fanfiction, but even then not as much as I usually do. Nothing can hold my attention for long. Everything is boring, or so it feels. I want something fresh. Or so I think. So, I’ve picked up some zombie LitRPG book, something that I usually wouldn’t go for. I started yesterday and I like it, a bit. But I’m not sure if I’ll get half way and then put it down. I’m not that invested in it yet. (For those wondering, the book is Rapture Book 1 of Apocalypse Gates by Daniel Schinhofen).

This is perhaps my worst reading slump in years. Oh, I’ve had longer periods where I haven’t read a book, but usually that’s because I’m engrossed in fanfiction and just don’t have any interest in original fiction. This time, just nothing is doing it for me, and I’m not sure why. That’s the biggest issue I’m having. I can’t tell you why I don’t want to read. It’s such an odd feeling. I love to read. I’d spend all my time reading if I could. But right now, I pick up my Kindle and almost immediately put it down, or I switch from book to book without actually making any progress.

I need a reset or something. I helped start a book club, so maybe that will help me get out of this slump. Or maybe I need to play a video game or something.
