Pictures In Blogging
I really like to blog. I do not know if you can tell that, as I only blog every single day. I know a lot of my fellow bloggers who have the same passion I do for maintaining and producing content for their blogs. One thing I have noticed, however is that a lot of us bloggers, myself included, seem to avoid using images in our posts.

I have some theories about this. First, I think that most of us are not photographers. I also think it’s a pain to find images that go along with what we’re writing about when you have to consider copyright and nonsense like that.
Laziness also plays a role, no doubt, along with the idea that words are the only thing that matter on a blog. I know for me personally, I find it kind of hard to actually include images in my posts. I have to find the image, I have to move it to the right directory so that it’s part of my site’s content, and the I have to actually remember to put it into my post before I publish it. The number of times I’ve done all the work to include an image only to forget to put it into the post is a non-zero number.

I’ve also had so many times where I have the thing in there, but for whatever reason it doesn’t show up once Hugo builds. I then have to spend time, that most precious of commodities, trying to figure out why the damn thing isn’t showing up. I’ll spend an hour rebuilding my site’s image protocol only to find out that I didn’t spell the filename right.
The thing is, though, I think images can add a lot of spice to your blog post. Not every post needs one, but adding them when they make sense can really add a lot of context to what you’re trying to say. People who may be more visual in their retention may remember your words longer if they have an actual image to go along with it. Yes, it adds overhead to your page’s load time, and yes adding them can be a pain, but I think they can really make a difference.
So, I’m going to strive to post more images in my blog posts, and I want to start posting more actual images to my images slash page. I created it for a reason, it would be a shame not to actually use it.
