Newsletter 2025.51
Yes, this is late. It has been a busy few days.
Work⌗
Wait. Work? Yeah, kinda. I got a call back a few days ago, and now have an interview scheduled for January. I received another call back today, but no interview with that one yet, they had some questions about the C/V.
I’m honestly surprised about both of these given the time of year and how shit the economy is.
Programming⌗
I worked on a bunch of projects this week. I worked a bit on my (open)subsonic client, mostly just a few bugs with lyric fetching and a new Now Playing view. I worked on the comments on this blog a bit, so now they’re threaded better and collapseable.
I worked a bit on my eReader project. It is still garbage. I may scrap it.
I did some extra work on this blog. I made the Series box on posts like this (see below) more compact and I made <details> elements better across the board.
No work on Checkbox or Homepage this week. Taking a break from those for a little while.
Gaming⌗
My nephew and I tried a little bit of gaming Saturday night. We learned that while gaming is pretty good on Linux, crossplay is still shite no matter what platform you’re on. We tried Halo: Master Chief Collection, but it wouldn’t work between Xbox and Linux. We did play one game of Among Us, but nobody apparently plays that anymore and all I did was kill my nephew.
This week we’re both going to buy Civilization VII and see if that works. According to Google, crossplay works. We’ll see if that is true or if we’ll have wasted 100 bucks each. The cost of games is insane.
Reading⌗
I reread Bride by Ali Hazelwood this week. Still a good book, though the smut at the end was much more disturbing this time than when I read it last year. I may read more of her stuff, but I have to be in the pure romance state of mind to do it.
I started a new series, Small Town Crafter, it is a LitRPG (kinda) so it should be right up my street. But so far it has been pretty boring.
I’m going to go to Will of the Many next. I want to finish that one before the end of the year.
Potpourri⌗
- I switched back to Qtile this week. Hyprland has been crashing on me, so I needed to move to something stable. Qtile has been great, but getting all of my new stuff from Hyprland back into my Qtile config (all my new scripts and such) has been a process. It will take a while. I’m hoping I can stick around here for a bit to make it worth it.
- I’m still recovering from my fall last week. While I didn’t seem to injure anything, my knees have been very sore these last few days.
- I think I’m going to sign up for a few courses at my local community college. Probably online since I’d feel out of place being an old dude on campus, but I feel the need to better myself a bit. Not sure what I will take, but I have a few ideas.
- I haven’t talked much about my weight loss journey since my first blog post, but I’m still working on it. It is much slower going than I had hoped, but I’ve lost a bit. Still a long way to go.
- I need to make a list of things I need to do to get Qtile working for me. There are a bunch of little things. I would also like to modularize my config so it is easier to make changes.
Small Web Links⌗
- 82MHz talks about a crazy project, Linux on a floppy disk. Absolutely nuts.
Last Week’s Goals⌗
- Read two books. I really want to keep this up. I don’t care if one of them is a reread. ✖️ (just one)
- Finish the music library. I’m very close. Over 100,000 tracks redownloaded. My internet has been saturated lately. Over 5TB of downloads. It’s nuts. ✅
- TLC has to take priority this week. I’d also like to get better at the new video editor ✅ (One video, a short, and a stream. Not bad. The new editor is trashed.)
- Actually record that HA video. ✖️
- More dev work. ✅
- Try out Cosmic Desktop for the first time. ✖️
Goals for This Week⌗
- Finish the first Crafter book, get back into Will of the Many.
- Work more on sonic-tui so that I can make it really good. Added Discord Rich presence this week, maybe see if I can make that better.
- More for TLC
- Work on HA.
- More Dev Work
- Cosmic Desktop if I can get it running on NixOS.
