My Favorite Podcasts

Over on my blog for The Linux Cast, I recently wrote about AntennaPod, my new favorite way to listen to podcasts. Not only is it awesome, but it’s open-source. When I was done writing that post, I thought it would be appropriate to talk about my favorite podcasts.

I subscribe to about 150 podcasts, most of which (unsurprisingly) I do not have time to listen to. But, there are a few that I never fail to listen to when a new episode pops into my feed. These are those.

  • First Things First - Nick Wright infuriates me, but he and the boys are entertaining, so I listen almost every day.
  • Caps Off Podcast - Football. These guys are very entertaining. I hope they’re just taking the off-season off and haven’t abandoned the show.
  • Birds vs Boys - An Eagles and a Cowboys fan get together once a week and talk about the birds and the boys. So good. Also, the Cowboys suck.
  • Linux Unplugged - I like this one a lot. They discuss interesting things without it being too noob-y, if you know what I mean.
  • 2.5 Admins - I’m not a Sys Admin anymore, but this one is nerdy af, and I love that.
  • Late Night Linux - Very entertaining.
  • Linux Lads - I like this one, but they’re a bit difficult to understand. But I still find it very entertaining. I wish they recorded more frequently.
  • Linux Matters - These three fellas are very inspiring, and way more knowledgeable about Linux than I will ever be.
  • This Week in Tech - Leo remains my favorite podcaster. Sorry, netcaster.
  • Mac Geek Gab - Listened to this one long before I had a Mac.
  • The Verge Cast - I’ve been listening to this one since the guys were at Engadget. I really like Nilay Patel. Some of the other hosts I could miss on, but still a good show about tech.
  • Bad Voltage - These guys all used to be Linux guys. Now they do more general news and stuff. Also, very entertaining. Not updated very often, though.
  • The Rebound - A bunch of Apple nerds, so it’s mostly an Apple podcast, but still very entertaining.
  • Security Now - Nerdy stuff on security. Sign me up.
  • Revolutions - Basically one big documentary about revolutions.
  • Dan Carlin’s Hardcore History - The amount of work this dude puts in per episode is obnoxious.
  • The Fall of Civilizations Podcast - Basically hours on end of how many civilizations ended. Very well produced.
  • History That Doesn’t Suck - Another one that is just so very well done.
  • Go Fact Yourself - a little trivia game podcast with celebrities.
  • Wait! Wait! Don’t Tell Me - Been listening to this for 20 years. It is so good, and usually hilarious. Great way to get the news.
  • Windows Weekly - I don’t listen often, but it is still excellent. Even if Windows sucks.
