For the longest time, I wanted speakers for my desk setup. I used to have this crappy set of Logitech computer speakers, but they burnt out long ago. For years after that happened, I used a good quality set of headphones at my desktop computer. I don’t mind this, really. It gets the job done and I don’t have to worry about volume at 3 AM. Not going to wake everyone up if System of a Down comes on full blast.

But, I’ve wanted speakers because there are times when it feels more freeing to listen to music without the cans on. Or listen to a YT video or podcast. There are also times when it’s just too hot to have huge over the ear headphones on. I will also say that the headphones I have, have a long ass cord. I hate managing it, and get caught in it all the time. So I thought that having speakers would at least limit that hassle.

So last year, back when I put together my new desk setup, I bought me a pair of Edifier speakers. Nothing overly extravagant, but quality nonetheless. I’ve had then for several months now, and I never use them. I have both my headphones and the speakers plugged into my DAC, which means I have to unplug my headphones and turn the speakers on in order to switch between them. I don’t really have another way of doing it. I’m sure that there is a way to switch between them without unplugging the cans, but I haven’t found it. Granted, I’ve not looked that hard. I’m just used to wearing the headphones, so it hasn’t bugged me.

So after lusting after the speakers, all they do is collect dust and take up space on my new desk. Maybe one of you guys would have a solution for me. Is there something relatively cheap that I could buy that would drive both the headphones and speakers, but allow me to switch between them with a switch or button? Let me know in the comments, on the Fedivers or email me.
