A few months back, I asked the question: “Why aren’t there any book clubs for dudes?”. One of the consequences of that post was that a couple guys got in touch and together we decided to actually start a book club. It’s not just for dudes, but it exists. Our first month is in the bag, and we picked a doozie of a book: War of the Worlds by HG Wells. I think there was only one guy who actually ended up finishing it. Yeah, turns out, it’s not a great book.

The club itself, which we’ve cleverly called The Bookies, is going to be focused on reviews and discussion of books voted on by members of the club. August’s book is Stephen King’s 11/22/63, a book I think a lot of us are looking forward to. What we really want out of this club is to make reading fun again by making it something we can do together. Reading is almost always more fun when you can go complain about whatever you just read to a group of people reading the same book.
