Since the last time I wrote about my updates to the blog, a lot has changed, even if it doesn’t look like it. The menu above has undergone some work. Now it is responsive, has a nice drop down menu that also works well on mobile, and looks a little better in light mode. Oh, yeah, there’s light mode now. If you’re on desktop, there is a button on the upper right that will give you a nice light mode if you want it. I’ve also made it so that it should remember your choice (that took some doing).

I’ve also added an Archives page. This is mostly for me, since I find myself linking to my old blog posts a lot, and finding them on a site without search is hard. So, no I just have a giant list of all the posts that I’ve ever written on this blog. I even made it so that it was sorted by year, with a post count, and each year is collapseable, so that it doesn’t get too long.

Speaking of stats, I’ve also expanded the About and Now pages to include more stats both about the blog itself and about what I’ve been doing. The About page also has links to most of my slash pages now, so you if you’re there you don’t have to go to the menu to find something.

My biggest creation these past couple of weeks is the Photos feed. This is a separate blog feed that is for images only. It has its own RSS feed and some special css that makes viewing images way better (like a lightbox). I have scripted a little, so I can more easily post pictures to that feed, but it’s still not quite easy enough. I’m pondering what I can do to make that easier.

I’ve also gone and made the logo actual text with some effects instead of the .png it was before. This way the font is more consistent, and it looks better no matter your screen size or resolution.

I almost like tweaking my blog more than I like writing for it, which is an odd thing to say. But it’s true. I’ve had so much fun doing little things on this blog. If you view that previous post about blog updates, you can see an image of what this theme looked like out of the box. It’s completely different now. And that makes me very proud of myself. I’m sure there will be more things I will do. I want to add a couple more specialized feeds. One for links to other people’s blog posts. I want those to be in the main feed, but to stand out. I also want to make sure my Anton font is more well used around the blog in places that make sense. I’m also thinking about adding a theme switcher. Maybe make it tie in with that button up top? Want Everforest? You can have that. Want Catppuccin? You can have that too. IDK how I’d go about doing that yet, it seems messy when I think about it, but it also seems cool, so I may end up doing that too.
