Getting Blog Ideas
A few days ago, Forking Mad wrote this post about the location where they get their finest ideas. For them, it’s in the shower. The prompt for this post, I believe, was not supposed to be the location, but instead something along the lines of where do you get your inspiration? But I like the location thing better.
First off, my inspiration comes from many places. I steal liberally from other authors, developers, and YouTubers. I have no shame. If you have a good idea, and I have thoughts on that idea, I will take it. I’ll give credit, of course, but once you present the idea to the world, it’s open source in my opinion, and I’m forking that bitch. 🤣
So, really, my source of inspiration is quite uninteresting. I’m not sure the location is that much more interesting, but it is funny. I seem, for whatever reason, to get a lot of my ideas while in the restroom, doing the business, as they say. I don’t know if this is a the most truly male thing I do, but it feels like it. Some dudes read the paper, others ponder possible blog and video ideas.
Probably more than most of you wanted to know, right? Talk about TMI.
But this made me think about why this is the way that it is. Forking Mad suggests it’s because there are no distractions. And that’s definitely part of it. But for me, it’s also the solitude. There aren’t other people around to bug me, there’s no online chat or phone calls going on. The bathroom provides you with something no other place in the world really does: comfort and alone time. What better place to think than that? I suppose these are also to be considered distractions, but you can cut yourself off from distractions anywhere. The only place where you’re ever truly alone is probably the bathroom. And that solitude can lead to great things that are simply not possible when you’re around other people.
