Your Life Needs RGB

I’ve made plenty of jokes about people who overcompensate with RGB. But there is something to this trend of lighting up your room and accessories.

I’ve added some to my room, and while I’ve not gone overboard, it has added to the ambiance of the room and made it feel a bit less like an office and more like a place I actually want to spend 12 hours a day.

A Bad Few Days

Other people have it worse, so it often feels inappropriate to complain, but the last few days have been not great days for me.

Between nonsense at work and my computer being a pain in the ass along with some family stuff, it has just been a rough few days. Everyone has those, I’m not special.

But we are all the centers of our own universe, and when things are going sideways, it feels like a BIG DEAL. And it is. It is okay to treat yourself like a big deal when you need to deal with your drama.

10 Pointless Facts About Me

I was challenged by Joel to answer 10 pointless questions. I probably won’t challenge anyone else. I’ve always been uncomfortable with that.

Not as often as I should, but likely more than most people.

Water, hate the other two. I am a big milk drinker, though.

Fun fact, I don’t wear shoes unless I have to. Haven’t since I started working from home. I wear slippers around the house and sandals out and about. Shoes are so meh.

AI Was Going to Inspire Me... But It Sucks

I didn’t know what to write about today, so I asked ChatGPT for ideas based on the articles I’ve written on this blog so far. I was hopeful that even if the ideas were crap, I’d be able to take some inspiration to find something to write about.

I guess in a way, I did. Though probably not what was intended.

The ideas that the AI gave me were dumb. They were tangentially related to my previous content, but only slightly so.

Why Can't Things Just Work?

A few months ago, I broke my iPhone. Like a dumbass. When that happened, what I should have done was just buy a used phone on eBay, but what I did instead (with the idea to make the device last for many years) was buy a Galaxy S25 Ultra. It was gloriously and ridiculously expensive.

I, at the time, decided that I wanted to switch back to Android. I almost always switch back and forth when I buy a new phone, which usually happens every three years.

Minimal Social Media User

Twitter was once so damn cool. And I’m not going to say anything about Elon. If we’re being honest, Twitter was broken long before Space Karen took over. What Elon’s takeover of Twitter/X did do, however, was make many people look at how they allowed social media into their lives. I know, since I’m one of them.

Back in the mid-00’s, when there was a new social network seemingly every week, and people went to SXSW to see what new app would take over the world, I was constantly excited about where the social web was going to go. Twitter, Facebook (though admittedly, FB came earlier), Four Square, StumbleUpon, Digg, and so many more came out between 2004 and 2010. People had these great ideas about how we could all come together online and build communities.

How Fandom Ruined Hermione Granger

Harry Potter captured the attention of an entire generation of young men and women, and remains one of the most popular franchises ever. Even kids today, 20+ years after the first book came out, know who Harry, Hermione, and Ron are. I was in my teens when the first book came out and I, like most people my age, was instantly fascinated.

That fascination didn’t die off as I grew older. I’m a bit embarrassed to say that I still enjoy Harry Potter to this day. I no longer think it’s the height of fiction, but I still think it’s a great story.

Working From Home Can Kill You

I’ve worked from home since 2012. I can’t honestly believe that it has been that long. You can probably say that I’ve been working from home since before it was cool. During that time, I’ve learned two things:

It’s not for everyone and that there are perils to working only from your home office.

I hate people. I try not to, but people are so stupid. They make dumb decisions and discuss things I have no interest in.

The Art of Self Tracking

Over on Mastodon, I follow Joel. Joel also has a blog, which I found through his Mastodon account. Now, before I found his blog, I wasn’t much of a follower of blogs. Sure, I’d view a few posts here or there if I were looking for something, but mostly I stuck to more traditional media.

This was a horrendous mistake.

The world of blogs, which has been around for almost as long as the internet, is a horrible thing to miss out on. I’m thankful to Joel and all the other bloggers out there who reminded me that this space exists. Without them, I wouldn’t be blogging right now. Or at least not as often, that’s for sure.

I Hate Flashbacks

One of the worst ways to write a story is to include a ton of flashbacks. I can handle one or two throughout a story, but these days many authors (both fanfiction and original) use flashbacks to tell significant part of their stories. This bugs the crap out of me, for many reasons.

Lazy Story Telling

This is probably just me, but flashbacks seem lazy to me. Yes, they still have to write the words, but flashbacks are often plopped into a story when the author didn’t do a good job of telling the story at the beginning where the information should have gone.
