Blog Problems
I've been blogging off and on for over 20 years. That just makes me feel effin old, man. Goodness. But it's true. One of the reasons it's been more off than on, is that I have a serious case of "not good enough" when it comes to the blogging software that I use. Always searching for perfection, I want something that works the way I want it to work, and any deviation from that leads to me looking for something else.
A week or so ago, I switched from WordPress to Ghost. A decision I'm seriously regretting. This time, though, I have legitimate reasons behind switching, if I do switch again.
Technical Difficulties
Ghost is supposed to be lighter weight than WordPress, easier to use, and just better over all. And I think that's all true. My experience over the last week has been pretty good. The writing experience is way better than on WordPress, the UI is better, and it feels more cozy.
The issue is that there's something wrong. Once a day, the damn thing locks up the entire server, and only a complete reboot of the VPS will get things going again. I've looked at logs, I've looked at htop, and nothing indicates that there is anything going wrong. But for whatever reason, there are times when I can't get the site or the Ghost backend to load at all.
I want to fix this. Because, as I said, I'm prone to switching platforms too often, and I had some hope that Ghost would solve that issue. But if I can't get it fixed, then I will be looking elsewhere. And that's an issue.
Goals
I had goals for this year, and one of those was to blog more. I don't even care if nobody reads these rambles, it's mostly to get my thoughts out on paper and try to just be more out there.
But if I keep having to move between platforms, that goal is going to die a quick painful death. I don't enjoy switching websites. It's a pain in the ass. And I have just about one more time in me before I say eff it and just decide a blog is entirely too much work.
If anyone knows why Ghost slows down like this, please let me know. If not, I'm looking at Hugo or Jekyll as my next choice. Neither one is really what I want for this blog. I wanted something a little more feature rich than Hugo provides, but I've used that before, and I know that it will work if Ghost bites the dust.
This is part of 30 in 30. Day 6, I think.
